Yahaya Bello, the governor of Kogi State, is said to have eluded an attempted murder on Sunday while traveling from Lokoja, the state capital, to Abuja for an important engagement.
Newsmen in Lokoja were given access to a statement released by Kingsley Fanwo, the state commissioner for information and communication, which included this information.
The attack happened at 4 p.m., according to the statement, and the attackers had on “military uniforms.”
He claimed that once they blocked the governor’s caravan, they began firing intermittently at his car and the other cars in it.
Fanwo claimed that the governor’s security detail’s quick action was necessary to thwart the gunmen’s plans.
The commissioner stressed that the attacks were at three different points, with the last barricade being around Kwali in the Federal Capital Territory.
“The report of these strange attacks has been properly documented at security offices in the state and at the national level for prompt and thorough investigations to avert future occurrences.
“We are not oblivious of the fact that certain elements are bent on painting Kogi unsafe ahead of the Governorship Poll slated for November 11, 2023. As an administration, we will spare nothing to ensure our citizens are not subjected to security threats by desperate politicians sponsoring violence and terrorism,” the statement said.
In order to ensure that the calm Kogi people have been relishing for the past eight years would not be sacrificed on the altar of violent politics, the statement urged Kogi citizens to exercise caution and report any suspicious movements in the area to the appropriate security agencies.
