Army Staff Lagbaja Warns Troops Against Negative Use Of Social Media

Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), has issued a warning to soldiers on following current regulations and the fundamental principles of the Nigerian Army, and has advised them not to make foolish decisions or commit crimes.

He issued a warning to the soldiers not to expose themselves to social media’s harmful effect since “it has often times been used to spread false and noxious information.”

On Tuesday, January 9, 2024, on his operational visit to Headquarters 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, the COAS issued the charge.

He urged the soldiers of the Nigerian Army (NA), Joint Task Force South East Operation UDOKA, and the 82 Division to uphold their commitment to and loyalty to their constitutional duties as stated in the Federal Republic of Nigeria’s Constitution.

While speaking to the troops, Army Chief Major General Onyema Nwachukwu disclosed in a statement released by the Director of Army Public Relations that the government had paid out the outstanding Group Life Assurance claims that had accrued since 2011.

Additionally, he disclosed that the NA had started paying troops’ accident insurance.

He stated that in order for the military to combat the nation’s security issues, they must increase their operational performance while maintaining their discipline and loyalty in return for these inspiring welfare interventions.

In addition to praising the troops’ fortitude and selflessness, Lagbaja advised them not to let social media’s harmful impact affect them, since it is frequently used to disseminate harmful and inaccurate information.

He went on to say that the Nigerian Army is a disciplined and honorable profession that has no place for criminal activity. It will always be the epitome of discipline, thus any lack of discipline on the part of its soldiers while they carry out their duties in their host communities will not be tolerated.

According to the COAS, the federal government has made admirable efforts to improve the welfare of soldiers and provide them with combat support.

Additionally, the Army Chief expressed gratitude to the governments and people of Enugu and Ebonyi States for their assistance and friendly relations with the troops of the 82 Division of the NA.
