Nigerian artist Fireboy DML has conveyed his respect for his fellow musician and record label associate, Asake.
He praised Asake’s exceptional talent and vibrant energy, noting that Asake recorded his verse for their 2022 collaborative hit, “Bandana,” while on a tour bus.
In an interview with Ebro, Fireboy attributed their successful collaboration to their enduring professional relationship, which began during their time as undergraduates at Obafemi Awolowo University in Ife.
“Our record label [YBNL] boss, Olamide, advised me to feature Asake on ‘Bandana.’ We sent it to him. He recorded that song on his tour bus. It was quick. The energy was insane,” he said.
“Asake is someone I’ve known since way back. We went to the same university. He has a very crazy personality.
“He’s a born star. We had that synergy from way back in school. We had similar struggles. We went through almost the same journey,” he added.
