The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has responded to the viral video of a Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) female student, Precious Mbakwe, assaulting a lecturer for interrupting her video recording.
UNIZIK recently made headlines after the video surfaced online, showing the student attacking the lecturer during a confrontation. Following the incident, the university management set up a disciplinary committee, which ultimately led to Mbakwe’s expulsion.
In a new development, ASUU has released a statement commending the assaulted lecturer, Dr. Chukwudi Michael Okoye, for his composed reaction. The union praised his maturity and professionalism in handling the situation.
Furthermore, ASUU applauded UNIZIK’s Acting Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Okoye, for taking swift disciplinary action, reiterating the union’s commitment to protecting the rights of academic staff and fostering a conducive learning environment.
A part of ASUU’s statement reads:
“The Academic Staff Union of Universities wishes to commend Dr. Chukwudi Michael Okoye for his exemplary display of maturity and civility in the face of a recent violent assault on him by a female student, Goody Make Precious Chiamaka, of the Department of History and International Studies.”
