Augustine Eguavoen stepped down as the temporary coach of the Super Eagles, marking the end of his short but effective stint.
Austin Eguavoen, who also works as the Nigeria Football Federation’s (NFF) technical director, was selected to oversee the squad on an interim basis after the NFF’s efforts to find a permanent head coach failed.
During his tenure as interim coach, Eguavoen was charged with managing the Super Eagles through two critical 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Benin Republic and Rwanda.
He effectively carried out this objective, guiding the team with his trademark knowledge and zeal.
Eguavoen’s decision to stand down is not surprising, considering he had previously agreed to take on the post for a limited time.
His short stay as interim coach brought stability and direction to the club, and his efforts will surely have a long-term influence on the Super Eagles’ progress.
Following Eguavoen’s resignation, the NFF will restart its hunt for a new head coach to guide the squad forward.
The federation will be looking for a candidate that has the vision, experience, and skill to build on Eguavoen’s foundation and propel the Super Eagles to new heights.
