Nigerian Afrobeat sensation Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe, popularly known as Ayra Starr, has found herself at the center of online criticism following a recent social media post.
The singer shared two fashionable photos of herself in a black gown on X, expecting admiration from her fans. However, the timing of the post did not sit well with many, as it coincided with an ongoing national controversy.
The backlash stems from the recent uproar surrounding a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member who publicly criticized President Bola Tinubu’s administration over inflation and economic hardship. The corps member’s viral video also mocked Lagos for its alleged unpleasant odor, triggering mixed reactions. Reports later surfaced that she was facing threats from NYSC officials.
Given the tense climate, many social media users perceived Ayra Starr’s post as insensitive and out of touch with the country’s struggles. This has led to a wave of criticism from fans who expected her to be more mindful of the current socio-political discourse.
