An Ondo State High Court, sitting at the premises of the Olokuta Correctional Centre, Akure, has granted bail of a teenage girl, Kemisola Ogunniyi in a sum of N10 million and a surety.
Kemisola was arrested in Akure, the State capital during the #EndSARS protests in October 2020 and detained at the Correctional Centre where she delivered a baby boy last week.
She along with three others are standing trial in the state High Court on charges of arson, conspiracy, riotous assembly, stealing and malicious offence.
The defendant however denied involvement in the crime, saying she was on her way to buy medicine for her “sick mother” when she was arrested.
Justice Omolara Adejumo in her ruling granted the bail application based on humanitarian grounds.
Counsel to the defendant, Tope Temokun, expressed delight over the release of his client as well as the bail condition which he said will be perfected later.
Temokun explained further that the defendant would not pay the N10 million bail bond to the court but must have a guarantor who is worth the amount with evidence of tax clearance and must be residing within the jurisdiction of the court.
