Unknown numbers of Federal University of Gusau, Zamfara State, students were kidnapped early on Friday by armed bandits.
Gistlover discovered that a large group of bandits broke into the Sabon-Gida neighborhood in the Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
According to Nazeer Sabon-Gida, a resident of Sabon-Gida, who talked with Channels TV, the gunmen broke into the neighborhood about 3 am and began firing randomly.
According to Sabon-Gida, three student hostels were raided, and the bandits kidnapped every student inside.
He said, “They entered the town around 3 a.m. and started shooting indiscriminately.
“We have yet to confirm the number of students kidnapped because the bandits entered three hostels and kidnapped all the students there. It is difficult to ascertain their numbers now.”
Another source revealed that the bandits engaged with troops of the Nigerian Army in a fierce gun battle but that did not stop the bandits from escaping with the kidnapped victims.
He said, “They were seriously engaged with the army troops but the way these bandits operate, they will divide themselves into two, one group will move with the kidnapped victims while the other will stay behind to protect the first group.
“The first group had left with the students while the second group engaged the army in a gun duel.”
In June, some university students demonstrated against the ongoing kidnapping of their friends in Sabon-Gida and Damba.
A settlement called Sabon-Gida is located about 20 kilometers from the state capital of Gusau, and across from the major campus of the Federal University of Gusau.
