Bandits Abduct University Professor, Kill Son.
Some unknown bandits suspected to be kidnappers have abducted Aliyu Mohammed, a senior lecturer in Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Kaduna State.
The kidnappers reportedly attacked the lecturer’s residence located in Wusasa, Zaria around 10p.m. on Sunday and started shooting sporadically.
The lecturer teenage son, Abdullaziz Aliyu was fatally shot by the assailants shortly after whisking his father away at gun point, a witness told Peoples Gazette on Tuesday morning.
Bege James, a resident in Wusasa, Zaria, told the Gazette that the kidnappers trailed the lecturer to his residence on motorbikes.
“Few minutes after Prof. entered his house, the abductors stormed in, his late son who was suspicious of the movement of unidentified men that entered their house was killed while he was trying to inform his mother that the assailants are kidnappers.”
Shortly after, they shot him dead and started shooting sporadically. Residents living in the neighborhood were unable to render any form of rescue as we all took cover for safety on hearing sounds of gunshots.” Mr. James said.
It was gathered that Mr. Mohammed is a professor in Agrimony Department, Faculty of Agriculture, A.B.U Zaria.
Dahiru Tijani Zango, chief security officer of the university told the Gazette on phone Tuesday morning that he could not assert if Mr. Mohammed is a staff of the university since the incidence did not occur within the school premises.
However, Samuel Aruwan, Kaduna State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, confirmed the attack in a statement on Monday.
The activities if banditry and kidnapping activities has ravaged several communities across the state. Most residents are living with fear as bandits continue to extend their operations to city center.
