On Wednesday night, bandits attacked Gidan-damo village in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State, killing three people, injuring seven, and kidnapping eight more.
Local resident Umar Sani told The PUNCH on Friday that the motorcycle-riding bandits entered the hamlet just after the night prayer (Magrib) and started shooting at everybody they came across.
Sani reported that three persons died immediately and seven others suffered grave injuries.
He continued by saying that other villagers fled frantically to the bush for their life.
He said that the robbers later traveled between residences, picking out four mothers and their four children before returning to the forest.
He said, “We just finished Magrib prayers after seven o’clock last Wednesday night when we heard several gunshots.
“Before we realised what was happening, we just saw a group of bandits carrying sophisticated weapons and shooting sporadically.
“They shot three people to death on the spot and also injured seven others.
“They also went from house to house and abducted four women with their four babies and went back to the forest.”
According to Sani, the security forces who were informed of the situation came in the village after the bandits had already fled.
A number of phone calls were made to ASP Yazid Abubakar, the state police command’s spokesperson, but he did not answer any of them.
According to reports, the bandits are reportedly on the rampage across the state as they try to stop farming operations.
