On Wednesday, members of the House chose Babayo Muhammad, a member of the Hardawa Constituency, to be the new Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, following the Court of Appeal’s decision to void the previous Speaker’s election.
In a similar vein, Ahmad Abdullahi, the legislator for Dass Constituency, was chosen by the assembly to serve as deputy speaker.
According to Gistlover, in a different ruling, the Court of Appeal in Abuja likewise declared the election of Jamilu Umarau Dahiru, the deputy speaker of the house for the immediate past, to be invalid.
The choice of the legislators to fill the vacancies left by the Court of Appeal’s rulings was made, according to House Spokesperson Musa Nakwada, who also verified the election of the new presiding officers.
According to LEADERSHIP, rerun elections will be held in a few Polling Units in the former Speaker and Deputy Speaker’s constituencies to decide who would ultimately win the legislative seats.
