The Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate for governor of Bayelsa State, Douye Diri, received a Certificate of Return from the Independent National Electoral Commission after winning the state’s governorship election on November 11.

At the Prof. Mahmood Yakubu Media Center INEC state headquarters in Yenagoa on Friday, the certificate of return was given to Diri by May Agbamuche-Mbu, the national commissioner of INEC overseeing Akwa Ibom, Rivers, and Bayelsa.

BREAKING: Appeal Court Upholds PDP’s Bala Mohammed as Bauchi governor

Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed’s position as the governor of Bauchi state has been confirmed by the Abuja Court of Appeal.

Mohammed was pronounced the victor of the March 18 governor’s race by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), but All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate AVM Sadique Abubakar (rtd) disagreed with the findings and filed a lawsuit.

Although the tribunal had maintained Mohammed’s election, Abubakar went to the Appeal Court.

On Friday, a three-person panel decided unanimously that Abubakar’s appeal was without merit.

The panel found that Abubakar and the APC had not provided sufficient evidence to support the accusations of malpractices and noncompliance with the Electoral Act, 2022 made against Governor Mohammed and the PDP. Justice Chidiebere Nwaoma Uwa read the panel’s lead verdict on Friday.
