All Progressives Congress Governors have asked Nigerians to hold off on passing judgment on the suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu, and instead wait for the results of the anti-graft investigation.
President Bola Tinubu ordered Ola Olukoyede, the chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, to look into any financial transactions involving the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation on Monday, according to Gistlover.
Before being suspended by President Bola Tinubu on Monday, Edu served as the minister in charge of the ministry.
On December 20, 2023, a leaked memo revealed that Edu had instructed Oluwatoyin Madein, the Accountant-General of the Federation, to transfer N585 million to a private account owned by Oniyelu Bridget. The ministry claimed that Bridget is currently the Project Accountant for Grants for Vulnerable Groups. This action brought criticism upon Edu.
The APC governors are unified, according to Hope Uzodinma, the chairman of the Progressives Governor’s Forum and the governor of Imo State, who made this revelation in Abuja on Wednesday night.
Uzodinma further guaranteed that Tinubu’s administration will have the backing of the APC governors in order to carry out the renewed hope agenda.
After the meeting, Uzodinma briefed reporters, saying that they had a chance to discuss how best to support President Tinubu’s Federal Government while also reviewing the state of the nation.
He stated, “The Progressive Governors’ Forum is united in supporting the APC administration ably led by our President Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu GCFR. We will continue to support him, we will take his policies to the grassroots.
“We have also agreed to ensure that our people come on the same page with the thinking of the government whose primary objective is to secure the country and provide adequate welfare to the good people of our dear country.”
On Edu, he stated, “The only perfect being we have observed and noticed is the Almighty God. The functions of government include encouraging good things and good appointees and discouraging bad things and bad appointees.
“What you just said about Betta Edu, is just an allegation, and in the wisdom of the President, it is being investigated, it is after the investigation is completed and the report made available to the government, that the government will now take the final decision. So we should not be in a hurry and don’t allow any sickness like anxiety cirrhosis.”
