On Tuesday, Google announced its 2024 Year in Search for Nigeria, revealing that the most searched news topics of the year included the U.S. elections, Nigeria’s new national anthem, and the national grid.
The annual report showcases the most sought-after searches across various categories, encompassing notable figures, musicians, films, television series, and inquiries that piqued the interest of Nigerians.
“In Nigeria, this year’s results show a continued interest in the political and economic landscape, with searches related to the U.S. elections, the new national anthem, and the national grid topping the news category in this order,” Google stated.
Among the trending personalities, Bobrisky emerged as the most searched, highlighting Nigerians’ fascination with prominent individuals. The music industry experienced a rise in popularity for artists such as Shallipopi and Khaid.
The most popular song was “I Don’t Care” by Boy Spyce, followed by “Ozeba” and “Commas” by Ayra Starr. In the lyrics category, “Ogechi,” “Ozeba,” and “Omemma” by Chandler Moore were the most searched.
Taiwo Kola-Ogunlade, Communications and Public Affairs Manager for Google West Africa, provided insights on these findings.

From cultural milestones to pressing concerns, these insights reflect how Search continues to be a valuable tool for users to navigate and better understand their world.”
