Insecurity: Boko Haram Still Occupies Sambisa Forest – Zulum.
Despite the brags that the Boko Haram terrorists group have been subdued in Sambisa forest by the federal government, the Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno revealed the insurgents still occupy part of the forest.
Appearing on Channels Television on Friday, Zulum stated that Boko Haram are still occupying the shores of the Lake Chad, Sambisa forest and Madra Hills.
The Governor called on the federal government to deploy more military personnel to take the war to the insurgents in their hideouts.
“One most important thing is the presence of the insurgents in the Lake Chad, presence of the insurgents in the Sambisa game reserve and the Madra Hills and this is one of our greatest challenges,” he said.
“They normally leave those areas and come and attack innocent people in their settlements and go back to their hideouts and therefore there is a need for the Nigerian Military to take the war into these critical areas with a view to eliminating them”.
Speaking on Chibok schoolgirls
Six years ago over 200 girls were abducted by Boko Haram from their secondary school in Chibok town, with some escaping on the night of the abduction.
While some have been rescued many still remain in captivity, with reports emerging that some of the girls have been married off.
Their abduction sparked several trends across social media including the #BringBackOurGirls which drew the attention of local and international authorities.
When asked if the government lost hope in the rescue of the girls, Zulum said: “not at all”. “We are still optimistic.”
