After Boko Haram multiple attacks on Damasak town in Borno State not less than 100,000 residents of the community fled to the Niger Republic.
Government sources noted at least 10 persons lost their lives on Wednesday, many wounded and thousands of others wandering in the bush.
It was gathered that the terrorists have burnt houses, shops and government facilities including police divisional headquarters in the community.
The attack on Damasak makes it the sixth time the terrorists will invade the community in the last two weeks.
Nigerian ground troops supported by the air component have been battling for the control of the affected community.
The military is yet to release an official statement on the state of things in the community.
According to Daily Trust, sources disclosed that the insurgents have finally hoisted their flags on Wednesday, and are still in the town at the time of filing this report.
Damasak, situated 188 kilometres from Maiduguri, is a strategic town in the northern part of Borno, bordering the Niger Republic and other LGAs on the shores of Lake Chad.
Some residents of the community have stormed neighboring town for safety, while others crossed to the Niger Republic.
Women, some of them pregnant and others carrying babies on their backs, with smaller children trailing them were reportedly the worst affected as they left their homes completely unprepared and trekked many kilometres in search of safety.
