Nigerian comedian and actor Bovi Ugbomma has reversed his stance and issued an apology regarding his remarks on gentle parenting.
According to Gistolover, the actor had previously encouraged parents to embrace the gentle parenting method in raising their children. During an appearance on the Honest Bunch Podcast, Bovi mentioned that he refrains from physically disciplining his children.
He also shared that his son tends to damage their televisions when upset, and he chooses not to punish him for this behavior, allowing him to express himself freely.
However, this perspective was met with criticism from netizens, many of whom accused him of fostering a violent child and failing to instill emotional control. Subsequently, Bovi took to X, formerly known as Twitter, on Tuesday to apologize for his earlier comments.
He wrote, “I don go trigger angry people because of the phrase I used . “For the fun of it”. Make una no vex. In trying to color my point, I’ve offended a shallow mob. You don’t have to agree with me. If you have children you want to beat, enjoy. My papa no physically beat me and I turned out almost ok.”
Netizens have persistently expressed their views and conveyed their dissatisfaction with Bovi’s perspective.
Reacting to the post…
@Neduzzy said, “Breaking tv 3 times is sure sign that you have failed in whatever you are doing in the name of training your child. That’s a high level of anger issues”
Another tweep, @winnerbennaba, wrote, “I’m glad you acknowledge that you “turned out almost ok”. Apparently, you’re not totally okay.”
@DamilareOdulesi stated, “Except what you said in that podcast was another comedy talk, allowing your kids to keep misbehaving because they are kids is absolutely out of it.
If you think that’s the right way to go, that’s your opinion. But for public sanity, we will correct an erroneous opinion.”
