Taye Ajoke, a student pursuing a National Diploma at the Nasarawa State-owned Isa Mustapha Agwai Polytechnic in Lafia, has been released after being abducted on Monday.
Ajoke’s kidnappers released her after a N300,000 ransom was paid.
Her home, Ombi 1, which is two kilometers from the Polytechnic, was attacked by heavily armed men who were firing sporadically while doing so. She was then taken captive and taken to an unidentified location.
Three people were wounded by bullets in the incident: two additional students and a prospective student.
Ekom Ayaka, the president of the polytechnic students union government, told our correspondent on Thursday that Ajoke’s captors had initially demanded a ransom of N50 million but had since lowered it to N500,000 after realizing that her family and well-wishers would not be able to pay their initial demand.
He continued by saying that the abductors agreed to free her in exchange for N300,000 after several requests for a further decrease in the ransom were made to them.
“We thank God that the bandits have released Ajoke,” he said. After a N300,000 ransom was paid on Wednesday, she was released around 7 o’clock.
“The kidnappers initially demanded N50 million, but they later lowered their demands to N500,000 after realizing that her family and friends would not be able to afford such a sum.
“However, after numerous requests to the kidnappers, they instructed her family to pay the N300,000 they had on hand. That was the method by which she was set free. “.
