The Inspector General of Police, IGP, Ibrahim Idris, has condemned the call for Biafra, adding that, no group under any guise would be allowed to disrupt or cause violence before, during, and after the forth coming Anambra election.
Idris disclosed this in Abuja, during the Situation Room dialogue session with civil societies, while beefing up security in the South-East.
Speaking on the activities of the Nnamdi Kanu-led Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, the IGP stated that there cannot be a Biafra in Nigeria, adding that: “a foreign flag cannot be hoisted on the soil of Nigeria, to serve a threat to the nation’s existing flag.”
“There is no country called Biafra, we are all Nigerians. All the South-Eastern States are part of this country, Nigeria. We should endeavor to promote good conduct”, he said.
The IGP revealed that four Policemen will man each of the 4,330 polling units, four Policemen to be assigned to each of the 320 collation centres, while 2,484 Officers will be deployed to patrol the 414 major streets in Anambra State, throughout the election period.
Further speaking on operational strategy, he said: “The Command has 80 operational vehicles; the Force Headquarters will provide 300 additional vehicles to the Command for the election. Force Headquarters will provide three Police helicopters for surveillance and aerial patrol throughout the period of the election.
“Gunboats for the Police Marine to man the waterways at Onitsha, Aguleri, and Nzam, have been provided. Additional riot equipment will be provided by Force Headquarters to the Command. Furthermore, for the purpose of a successful election, the river line area will be manned by Marine Police and Nigerian Navy.
