The Federal Capital Territory High Court has postponed the trial in the alleged procurement fraud case against Godwin Emefiele, the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, until January 18, 2024.
Emefiele was charged with abusing his position to provide CBN employee Sa’adatu Yaro a corrupt benefit by issuing a contract for the purchase of 43 cars valued at N1.2 billion between 2018 and 2020.
After that, he was placed under arrest in the Kuje Correctional Center on remand until his bail application was decided on November 22.
But Emefiele was given N300 million in bail by Judge Hamza Muazu.
The previous governor of the CBN must provide two sureties in the same amount, he continued.
Emefiele has not yet complied with his bail requirements, as evidenced by the fact that armed Nigerian Correctional Service officers hauled him to court and took him away. The judge pointed out that the sureties must possess titles and certificates of occupancy for properties located in the Maitama neighborhood of Abuja.
