The Rivers State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Abuja, has trashed the petition filed by Beatrice Itubo, the 2023 election governorship candidate of the Labour Party in Rivers State.
The People’s Democratic Party candidate Simnalayi Fubara’s victory in the March 18 governorship election was contested in the case.
With 302,614 votes, Simnalayi Fubara defeated Tonye Cole of the All Progressives Congress, who received 95,274 votes, to win the governorship.
Following the filing of a petition challenging Fubara’s victory by the LP and APC candidates, the tribunal reached its conclusion.
The tribunal, presided over by Justice Cletus Emifonye, reached a decision on Monday and dismissed the Labour Party’s petition on the grounds that it lacked validity and failed to support the charges. This followed the adoption of final written addresses and arguments from all parties.
