The German Bundesliga maintains the first slot as the best-attended football league in the world, the German League [DFL] has announced.
An average of 42,421 passed through the turnstiles of the stadiums of Germany’s upper tier in the 2015-16 season.
League-high attendances were led by the two powerhouses Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich, who averaged 81,178 and 75,018 fans per match respectively.
The Bavarians sold out all of their 17 home matches, while BVB failed to sell out the away end in their matches against Mainz, Hannover and Hertha Berlin.
A total of 12,980,815 spectators attended the 306 matches of the German top flight, with the numbers going down from a total of 13,061,532 the previous season.
Seats in the Bundesliga stadiums were filled to 91 percent of their capacity.
Numbers in the second tier went up from an average of 17,613 in the 2014-2015 season to 19,017 last term.
