Burna Boy Faces Backlash For Clubbing With Seyi Tinubu Amid Ongoing Public Criticism

Nigerian Grammy-winning artist Burna Boy, born Damini Ogulu, is under fire from fellow citizens after being seen partying with Seyi Tinubu, the son of Nigeria’s president, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Burna Boy, who is often praised for using his music to spotlight economic inequality and social issues, surprised many when he was spotted socializing with Seyi Tinubu in a nightclub setting.

The controversy stems largely from recent tensions between Seyi Tinubu and veteran Nigerian rapper Eedris Abdulkareem. Abdulkareem recently released a protest song titled “Tell Your Papa”, aimed at criticizing both President Tinubu and his son for Nigeria’s worsening economic state. The song has since been banned by the National Broadcasting Commission.

Eedris Abdulkareem’s criticism was triggered by Seyi’s public praise of his father as the “greatest president” Nigeria has ever had—a statement many Nigerians found insensitive given the country’s ongoing struggles.

Adding fuel to the fire, Burna Boy was seen interacting with Seyi Tinubu in the company of Hollywood actor Michael B. Jordan. Videos circulating online show the three having a brief conversation, with the focus seemingly on the American celebrity, yet netizens were quick to express disappointment at Burna Boy’s association with Seyi.
