Ashton Mutuwa, a Nigerian wrestler based in the United States, stated that the music of Nigerian artist Burna Boy serves as a source of inspiration for him during challenging times.
Mutuwa made this revelation during an interview with NAN on Tuesday in Paris, France.
“Everybody just go crazy when Burna Boy comes on, I love his music, whenever I need a big lift or motivate myself during workout, I listen to him.
“He is my favourite musician” Mutuwa said.
He stated that Daniel Igali, the President of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NWF), along with his coach, Victor Okorie, possesses the necessary qualities and experience to positively influence their athletes.
Mutuwa has made two visits to Nigeria, the first occurring in January for the national trials and the second during the training camp in March.
He expressed that his preferred dishes are jollof rice and Egusi soup, noting that they can be paired with a variety of accompaniments.
Mutawa expressed that his motivation to represent Nigeria stemmed from one of his closest friends, a Serbian, who achieved notable success by winning medals and traveling extensively, thereby bringing pride to his nation and family.
“He was a world champion in 2023 for Serbia, he was representing his country, making his family proud. I thought it is a good idea to do it for myself” Mutuwa said.
Mutuwa stands as Nigeria’s sole male wrestler at the Olympics and is scheduled to compete on Thursday, August 9, in his inaugural match.
