Activist and lawyer Deji Adeyanju has criticized well-known Nigerian artist Burna Boy, whose real name is Damini Ogulu.
He claims that Burna Boy is using the police to threaten fellow musician Speed Darlington.
Adeyanju believes that Burna Boy is responsible for the police harassment of Speed Darlington.
Posting on X, he wrote: “Burna Boy behind the harassment of Speed Darlington by the police. This is someone who has been singing against oppression and forming junior Fela, now oppressing Akpi.”
It’s important to note that we shared the news about Darlington being re-arrested by the Imo State Command of the Nigeria Police Force in Owerri, the capital of Imo State.
The police caught him while he was performing at a show in Owerri, just a few days after his return to the country.
He had recently been arrested for alleged cyberstalking of Burna Boy.
Initially, he was taken into custody in Lagos and then moved to Abuja, where he was held by the IGP’s Intelligence Response Team in the Guzape area.
In other news, Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have apprehended Nigerian musician Darlington Okoye, widely recognized as Speed Darlington, just two months after his previous release.
According to GistLover, the artist, also referred to as Akpi, was taken into custody on October 4, following the publication of a controversial video in which he purportedly ridiculed his fellow artist Burna Boy for his connection with American rapper Diddy, who is currently embroiled in legal troubles with the FBI concerning allegations of sexual exploitation.
The outspoken artist was subsequently granted bail on October 9, after spending five days in custody.
His attorney, Deji Adeyanju, announced the recent arrest on Wednesday through a post on his official Facebook page.
He stated, “Our client Speed Darlington, a.k.a AKPI has been arrested by the Nigerian police in Owerri at his show upon return to Nigeria.”
Attempts made to contact the Nigeria Police Force regarding this incident were unsuccessful, as the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, did not respond to calls.
