The Catholic Diocese of Abakakili in Ebonyi State has refuted the claim of a priest marrying the love of his life in the state.
Allegations surfaced on social media that a Catholic priest named Jude Obasi tied the knot with his partner on 25 May in Abakakili, the state capital.
The purported wedding was said to have taken place at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church, Abakakili.
Images of the priest, reportedly from Afikpo North Local Government Area of the state, and his alleged lover in a wedding gown were circulated on social media.
In response, the Diocesan Chancellor, Matthew Opoke, clarified that no priest by that name serves within the diocese.
Opoke further mentioned that the individual depicted in the viral photo “bears no resemblance to any priest” in the diocese.
He further stated that there is no priest with such name either in the diocese or from Afikpo North Local Government Area of the state, and the diocese does not have any place called Saint Mary’s Catholic Church, Abakakili.
The statement added;
“It goes without saying that the publication…is fake. It was possibly fermented by a blogger who wants to gain much traffic on their social media handles.”
