Actress Chioma Akpotha has criticized Netflix for posting the official trailer of Femi Adebayo’s new film, Seven Doors, before the producer had the opportunity to share it.
Netflix uploaded the trailer on their Instagram account on Friday, ahead of Femi Adebayo’s intended timeline.
The post read, “All hail the king. SEVEN DOORS will open 13 Dec. Only on NETFLIX.” This early release sparked backlash in the comments, with many users questioning Netflix’s choice.
Among the critics was Chioma Akpotha who expressed her frustration, “@naijaonnetflix Guys, like WTH! Do you not know what timing is? 😡 @femiadebayosalami had set the ball rolling by dropping teasers! People were already anticipating, only for it to be messed up by the full trailer release here… JUST LIKE THAT?! Do you not know what being strategic is? Kai.”
Other comments came in, with Ganiyu Kolawole saying, “Netflix didn’t even wait for Femi to unlock the fifth door on his page.”
Adebayom Jimoh remarked, “You guys should have followed the producer’s marketing strategy.”
Femi Adebayo has been creating buzz for Seven Doors by posting teasers, keeping fans excited for the film’s debut.
The producer of Jagun Jagun has effectively engaged the audience, raising their expectations.
In an interview with Independence in August, Femi mentioned he is creating a new project that is “better than Jagun Jagun.”
He also provided some details about the film,
“The next movie that I said is bigger than Jagun Jagun is titled Seven Doors and it’s set in two eras, the 18th century and the 19th century, which means we have the old-school setting where we have those 504s, the Volkswagens of then and it also takes us back to that kind of Jagun Jagun setting. It’s mixed and it features multiple tribes. It is about a Yoruba king married to an Igbo woman, with a Hausa man coming to invest. It plays around Nigerian culture.”
he cast of Seven Doors includes Femi Adebayo, Chioma Akpotha, Wumi Toriola, Yinka Quadri, Oshodi Oke, Dayo Amusa, Adebayo Salami, and Gabriel Afolayan, among others.
The film will premiere on Netflix on December 13.
