Governor Siminalayi Fubara has approve the grant N100,000 as a Christmas bonus to state civil servants in Rivers State.
Labor urged civil staff to back the Fubara-led administration for this extraordinary generosity in a statement released in Port Harcourt yesterday.
The Joint Negotiation Council (JNC) and its representatives, Comrades Ikechukwu Onyefuru and Chuku Emecheta, as well as Comrade Alex Agwanwor, the chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), signed the statement.
By making the gesture, they said the governor had surpassed the record set by the previous governor’s administration, Peter Odili, who awarded N20,000 to government servants as a Christmas bonus while in office.
The statement reads in part: “It is important to mention that no other administration gave Christmas bonus to Rivers State civil servants after His Excellency, Dr Peter Odili until now.
“We call on workers in Rivers State to continue to pray for peace in the state during this time of political crisis. We wish to state that with this kind gesture, our governor has further proven himself as the workers’ governor.
“Hence, we warn all political detractors to desist from distracting His Excellency as any further attack on His Excellency will be treated as attack on Rivers’ workers.
“We reiterate the unalloyed support of workers to the Governor Siminalayi Fubara led administration.
“Finally, we urge the good people of Rivers State to be security conscious during this yuletide as we pray for God’s favour and prosperity upon Rivers State.”
