Ckay, a Nigerian musician, has stated with confidence that he was the first to introduce many of the sounds that are now popular in Afrobeat.
He shared this in a recent post on his X page. Ckay reminisced about the time he was laughed at for his emo afrobeat style, which has since taken off on TikTok.
He noted that many artists in the Afrobeat scene are now following his lead and making significant earnings.
His words: “ckay IS the first. i pioneered many vibes afrobeat artists thrive off today…iykyk. y’all laughed when i came up with emo afrobeat and was on tiktok all day but many are now doing the same thing, calling it ridiculous names (& making $$). you’re welcome sha 😎.”
