Hon. Dr. Gentle Emelah, the Bayelsa State Commissioner for Education, recently conducted a routine inspection at Community Primary School 1 & 2 Angalabiri in Sagbama LGA.
During his visit, he discovered that the pupils were engaged in washing freshly harvested cassava on the school premises instead of receiving their regular lessons.
The pupils informed him that they had not learned anything that day and were instructed by their teachers to harvest cassava for them.
Upon further investigation, the teachers admitted that the pupils had been working for them and pleaded with the Commissioner for forgiveness regarding this disappointing incident.
Dr. Emelah expressed his strong disapproval of the situation and subsequently summoned the absent Head Teacher and all other teachers in the school to appear at the Commissioner’s Office in Yenagoa for appropriate sanctions.
