Sam Allardyce has been confirmed as the new England manager after the Football Association agreed to pay over £3 million in compensation to Sunderland.
Sunderland demanded more than the £2m remaining on Allardyce’s contract as added compensation for the disruption to their pre-season preparations.
Sources would not put an exact figure on what the FA have paid for Allardyce, but confirmed it was upwards of £3m following 24 hours of negotiations.
Allardyce has signed a two-year contract with the option of a further two years if he meets targets at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
His first competitive game in charge will be the qualifier against Slovakia on September 4.
