A National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member has shared his excitement online after receiving the newly increased N77,000 allowance, marking the moment with a special meal.
Corps members previously earned N33,000 as their monthly stipend. However, following the federal government’s recent increment, the new allowance took effect less than 24 hours ago, sparking celebrations among beneficiaries.
One of the corps members, identified as @bj_black19 on TikTok, posted a video showcasing his “first quality meal” after receiving the new stipend. The clip, which quickly went viral, featured him enjoying his food with a caption that read, “Thank you, NYSC. Last last men don taste 77K 😂.”
The video has since garnered significant engagement from social media users, with many sharing their thoughts on the increased allowance. Some congratulated corps members on the improved earnings, while others humorously speculated on how long the money would last, considering the rising cost of living.
Amid the discussions, some corps members expressed their relief at the increment, saying it would help them cover basic needs more comfortably. Others, however, pointed out that while the raise is commendable, inflation might reduce its actual impact.
The new allowance structure has sparked widespread discussions, with many hoping that the government will continue to prioritize the welfare of youth corps members, ensuring that their stipends reflect current economic realities.
