Suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari has relived his experience during the attack on the Kogi Medium Security Prison in Abuja, where he was detained. Insurgents who have now been revealed to be ISWAP, breached the correctional facility on Tuesday night and freed hundreds of inmates including 64 Boko Haram members. A prison source told SaharaReporters that Kyari, who is standing trial for alleged drug trafficking was later relocated to a safe zone by the authorities. Vanguard reports that he shared his ordeal from his current location and said that God saved him as well as other high profile inmates like Farouk Lawan and ex-governor of Taraba state, Jolly Nyame. He said; ‘’Only God saved us today (yesterday). For over two hours and 45 minutes, more than 300 terrorist took over the Kuje prison in Abuja with GPMGs, Bombs, RPGs, Many Rifles etc. ‘’The total population of the Kuje Prison inmates is about 1,476, and only 111 of the inmates refused to escape and decided to remain in the prison as 90 per cent escaped. ‘’Those that decided not to escape include former governor Jolly Nyame of Taraba State, Farouk lawal, Abba Kyari and four of his officers, retired AVM and also 107 other inmates who have less than three months to finish their jail term.’’

Abba Kyari, the suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police, has returned to prison following the denial of bail by the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Alongside two other senior police officers, Abba Kyari was charged with drug-related offenses.

The denial of bail was issued by Justice Emeka Nwite, who stated that the defendants failed to provide sufficient evidence to warrant the court’s discretion in granting bail.

The trial judge emphasized the need for the court to exercise its discretion judiciously, leading to the decision of not granting bail to the defendants.

This ruling comes after Kyari was previously granted a temporary two-week bail of N50 million, with a surety of the same amount, to attend his late mother’s burial.
