Court Postpones Portable’s Case Till March 26

  • The case of Portable, has been postponed by an Abeokuta Magistrate’s Court until March 26.
    • This delay allows the prosecution to combine his charges with those of his employees.
    • When the case resumed on Wednesday, the prosecution argued that hearing Portable’s argument separately from his workers would waste the court’s time.

The case of popular singer Habeeb Okikiola, known as Portable, has been postponed by an Abeokuta Magistrate’s Court until March 26. This delay allows the prosecution to combine his charges with those of his employees.

When the case resumed on Wednesday, the prosecution argued that hearing Portable’s argument separately from his workers would waste the court’s time.

Mr. Timileyin Oredein, Senior State Counsel, informed the court that Portable’s case is related to another case that should be combined before the trial starts.

He also noted that the musician and nine of his employees were previously charged on February 6 with similar offenses.

He mentioned that trying the defendants separately would waste time.

Oredein asked the court to set a quick date for combining and changing the charges.

Portable and his workers were charged with five offenses, including conspiracy, assault, and illegal obstruction while armed with cutlasses and a gun. They were also accused of actions that could lead to a breach of the peace.

In addition, they faced charges for allegedly attacking three officials from the Ogun State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development.

In his previous court appearance, Portable said he was not guilty and was given bail set at N2 million. One of the conditions of his bail is that he cannot talk about the case or anything related to it on social media.
