Covid-19: Nigerian Doctors Move against Reopening Of Schools

Covid-19: Nigerian Doctors Move against Reopening Of Schools.

National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has kicked against the ongoing plan by the federal government to reopen schools on January 18 amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The NARD’s president, Dr Uyilawa Okhuaihesuyi, advised that it would be dangerous to reopen schools now due to the spike in COVID-19 cases.

NARD’s president, Okhuaihesuyi, says the plan to reopen schools is a very bad idea.

He told The Nation that the government’s decision was faulty because it had not made sufficient provisions to stop the spread of the disease.

The medical practitioner said:

“I feel that the government is making a mistake with the recent proposed opening of schools in the next few days.” COVID-19: FG declares position on imposing another nationwide lockdown It will be insensitive because they have not made any provision as ways of precautionary measures to stop the second wave of the COVID-19, and they have not given instructions to any institution be it schools, nurses and military among others.

According to Okhuaihesuyi, sending students back to schools at this period is a disaster waiting to happen. He said the COVID-19 related deaths that are occurring in medical centers across the country are increasing daily. The doctor noted that many Nigerians were yet to adhere to simple COVID-19 guidelines like wearing their face masks.
