Cyclists Shows It All In The World [email protected]. Ð Bike Ride In London [Photos]
Every year since 2006, Brighton’s bravest have taken part in the ‘protestival’ to demonstrate the vulnerability of cyclists on the road and protest car culture. Some sported glitter boobs, body paint and creative costumes while others went fully n**e for the ride.
They made their way through Brighton town centre, along the seafront to Hove before heading back to Brighton naturist reach for a picnic and swim in the sea. Since 2007, Sussex Police have permitted full nudity at the event following negotiations.
The Brighton event is one of a number happening in the UK and around the world at the same time, including in nearby Portsmouth. Organisers said getting themselves seen was a key part of its aim.
Andrew Fisher, 40, said: ‘It’s about getting people on bikes noticed.
‘Even when we are fully clothed we are naked to the danger of motorists on the road.’
He added that the roads were ‘built for bikes’ but had become ‘overcome by traffic’.
‘We want to live in a world not blighted by traffic pollution where the car is seen as the go to form of transport,’ he said. ‘We want cycling to be made safer and easier.’
‘It’s a real fun, event with a party and carnival atmosphere.
‘Last year we had 300 people and we reckon we’ve had even more this year.
‘It’s people of all genders, shapes and sizes.
‘Obviously some people are a bit taken aback and some can be negative but we are really pleased with the reaction we’ve had.’
