Kemi Olunloyo, an outspoken investigative journalist known for her provocative statements, has launched a scathing critique on social media, accusing Afrobeats icon Davido of being all rhetoric and no substance regarding his late mother’s family in Edo State.
Recently, Davido expressed his deep interest in the Edo governorship election, sharing on X (formerly Twitter) that his late mother, Imade Veronica Adeleke, originated from Edo State, which heightened his personal stake in the election’s results.
However, Kemi was quick to respond. Outraged by what she perceived as a mere publicity stunt, she criticized the artist for “chasing clout” online while allegedly maintaining a distant and indifferent relationship with his mother’s family in private.
Kemi, known for her forthrightness, asserted that despite Davido’s public expressions of pride in his Edo heritage, he has been neglecting his roots for an extended period. She went further to allege that billionaire businessman Deji Adeleke, Davido’s father, significantly contributed to this estrangement.
According to Kemi, Deji intentionally distanced young Davido from his mother’s relatives following her tragic passing, even when Davido was only nine years old.
She also alluded to potential issues in Deji and Veronica’s marriage prior to her untimely death, suggesting that these unresolved matters may have played a role in the strained family relationships.
Kemi boldly called on Davido to cease leveraging his mother’s name for political purposes and instead take meaningful steps to reconnect with her relatives in Edo. She emphasized that it is time for Davido to mend the fractured relationships he has long overlooked.
