Davido makes U-turn, commends Osun Commissioner of Police’s efforts

In a notable shift, Davido has retracted his previous critical remarks and commended the actions of Osun State Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Abba, along with other security forces in addressing the recent political unrest in the region.

According to Gistlover, Davido had previously expressed dissatisfaction with the police chief, alleging a failure to maintain the rule of law during violent confrontations instigated by ousted All Progressives Congress (APC) local government chairmen attempting to regain their positions despite judicial decisions against them.

The artist had voiced his frustration through his X (formerly Twitter) account, denouncing the commissioner’s management of the situation.

Nevertheless, in a statement issued on Monday evening, Davido acknowledged that his earlier judgment was flawed, appreciating the efforts of the security agencies in averting further violence.

He wrote in part:

“Further review of political developments in Osun State revealed more facts, including several genuine efforts of the state security agencies, including the Commissioner of Police.”

“The bloodshed of today infuriated me so much that I heaped all the blame on the Commissioner of Police.”

Recognizing their unwavering efforts, Davido remarked:

“I now see that the issue is more than that of the Commissioner of Police or other security chiefs. The needless killings of today angered me deeply, and I thought such should have been nipped in the bud. Yet, I can see that the security agencies, led by the Commissioner of Police, put in their best and deserve commendation.”

Davido expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and urged security agencies to enhance their efforts in preserving peace. He stated:

“In memory of the dead and the injured, I urge the security agencies, including the Commissioner of Police, to redouble their efforts to sustain peace. We must allow the rule of law to prevail.”
