Davido reveals dad insisted he sues K24 over April fool’s prank, video trends

Nigerian Afrobeats artist Davido, actual name David Adedeji Adeleke, has revealed that his father, Adedeji Adeleke, persuaded him to sue K24 for the April Fools’ Day joke.

On April 1, K24 published a bogus report on their website, alleging that Davido had been detained at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

According to the media outlet, the musician was held at JKIA when illegal drugs were discovered on his private plane.

This came following his performance at Kenya’s Raha Festival. Many people marked it and disregarded it because it fell on April Fool’s Day. However, the article’s popularity grew as more people saw it as legitimate news.

The news trended and even caught the attention of the DCI, who labelled it as a prank.

As a result, he fiercely disputed the charges and announced his intention to sue the media outlet responsible for disseminating the falsehood.

In a TikTok video tweeted by @musicindustryblueprint, the Nigerian musician admits that he first did not want to sue.

Although he didn’t enjoy the April Fool’s prank, he was willing to let it go.

However, his father contacted and inquired about the situation, suggesting that the star pursue legal action.

According to Davido’s father, the libellous piece would harm the star’s reputation and subject him to needless security inspections and investigations while travelling other nations.

“My dad was calling me like, ‘Where are you at?’ I was like, ‘I am home’. He’s like, what’s this? And I see it on the net, and at first I was like, no, I am not going to report it. Just let it go. It’s April Fools. Then my dad was like ‘no because you can fly a plane to any country now and then they bring 20 police to check you’…I haven’t seen that type of drug in my life. So yeah, I am taking legal action because it might just go the wrong way if we just don’t,” Davido explained. That said, he appreciated his Kenyan fans, noting that he had a good time in the country.

“Shout out to the people of Kenya. It was just one crazy person who decided to do an April Fool’s joke, but the country…we just came from East Africa…we just did Uganda and Kenya…amazing…both shows…everything went well,” he said.
