Davido Sparks Debate After Claiming He Started Life in Face-Me-I-Face-You Apartment

Nigerian music star David Adeleke, better known as Davido, has stirred conversation online after revealing in a newly released song that he began his life in a modest one-room apartment—commonly referred to as a “face-me-I-face-you” in Nigeria.

The revelation comes from a track titled CFMF off his fifth studio album 5ive, which dropped on Friday. In the song, Davido reflects on his journey and attributes his current luxurious lifestyle to divine grace.

    He sings:

“Take a step and walk into my life…
Started all the way from face me I face you
    Face me I face you
And now, I am living real large all thanks to Jesu
    All thanks to Jesu oh.”

His lyrics have sparked skepticism, particularly on social media, where many fans questioned the authenticity of his claims due to his well-known wealthy background. Davido is the son of Nigerian billionaire businessman Deji Adeleke.

This isn’t the first time the artist has attempted to tell a rags-to-riches story. In his 2011 debut single Back When, he rapped about being ignored by women when he was broke, a narrative many also found unconvincing. The song had limited success, partly due to public disbelief over the backstory.

Davido later embraced his affluent roots more openly in his 2012 breakout hit Dami Duro, where he proudly referred to himself as a rich man’s son and asserted that nothing could hold him back.

Despite the backlash, his latest claim continues to fuel discussions about celebrity storytelling and authenticity in music.
