Davido, a Grammy-nominated Afrobeats artist, has once again demonstrated his ability at making hit songs.
He recently joined the remix of “Ogechi,” a song that was already popular on TikTok.
After Davido’s involvement, the “Ogechi” remix peaked at number one on the TurnTable Nigeria Top 100 chart for the week of June 28 – July 4, 2024.
The remix was released on June 26, a day after Davido’s highly publicized wedding.
The song, by Brown Joel, Boypee, and Hyce featuring Davido, was both the most streamed song and the most played song on radio that week. It received 6.76 million on-demand streams and was broadcast 49.3 million times on radio.
“Ogechi” remix outperformed songs by other prominent names in Nigerian music. Burna Boy’s “Higher” came in second, while Olamide’s “Metaverse” moved up to third position.
This is Davido’s second number one hit in 2024, following his performance on Kizz Daniel’s “Twe Twe” remix. It reinforces Davido’s place as one of Afrobeats’ most successful hitmakers, which he has held for more than a decade.
