The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to Chioma Okoli, who has been in jail since 2023 for allegedly posting a tomato paste review.
In a ruling issued on Friday, May 31, 2024, Justice Peter Lifu granted the defendant N5 million bail with two sureties in the same amount.
The judge determined that one surety must be her husband or a blood relative who has a proven income and lives in the court’s jurisdiction.
He further determined that the sureties must deposit their passport photographs, despite Chioma’s orders to surrender her international passport and not leave the country without jurisdiction.
Justice Lifu stated that the allegations against her are bailable and scheduled the next hearing for June 13th.
This came a few days after her lawyer confessed that she had lost her pregnancy as a result of the stress caused by the litigation over the previous few months.
