Nigeria’s ace producer Micheal Ajereh, nicknamed Don Jazzy, has been trending online in recent hours following reports of Universal Music Group (UMG) taking a controlling share in his Mavin record label.
Mavin would retain its autonomy, with Don Jazzy as CEO.
Hours after the news went viral, the Mavin label president rushed to social media to announce the transaction, which will have a big impact on Nigeria’s music business.
Don Jazzy also published Mavin and Universal Music Group logos on his Facebook, prompting responses from well-known figures in the entertainment sector.
Collins Enebeli Ajereh, aka Mavin Grandpa, the music producer’s father, reacted positively to the development.
Expressing pride in Don Jazzy and Mavin, Ajereh appreciated God for keeping him alive to witness his son’s success. Recall that the Mavinboss lost his mother in 2022.
He wrote:
“I thank God and I am proud this happened in my life time. I feel fulfilled. Congrats @donjazzy for taking the legacy a notch higher. More grease to your elbows and that of the entire SMD family. God bless.”
