Phillip Shuaibu, the deputy governor of Edo State, has requested an injunction from the Abuja-based Federal High Court to halt the start of the impeachment procedure against him.
The Inspector General of Police, the State Security Service, the Governor of Edo State, the Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, and the Chief Judge of Edo State are the first, second, third, fourth, and fifth defendants in the lawsuit with the file number FHC/ABJ/CS/1027/2023.
The 3rd, 4th, and 5th Defendants/Respondents or their agents are forbidden from starting an impeachment procedure against Shauib, according to the interlocutory injunction he is requesting.
Additionally, he asked the court to enjoin the state’s governor or any other person acting under his direction from harassing him and obstructing his ability to perform his duties as the state’s deputy governor.
An order of interlocutory injunction prohibiting the third defendant/respondent from harassing, intimidating, embarrassing, and preventing the plaintiff/applicant from performing the duties of his office as deputy governor of Edo State, including attending the State Executive Council Meetings/Functions and other office-related duties, was one of the reliefs requested.
An interlocutory injunction prohibiting the third, fourth, and fifth defendants/respondents from initiating, either on their own or through their representatives or other people acting in their name.
Shaibu, however, filed a motion exparte and a motion on notice for the same reliefs.
He filed an interim injunction on the motion exparte and an interlocutory injunction on the motion on notice.
Between Governor Godwin Obaseki and his deputy, there had reportedly been a crisis in the past, but Shaibu had repeatedly denied it.
