On Wednesday, Wahab Shittu (SAN) claimed that Ola Olukoyede, the recently appointed Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), had never been charged with any wrongdoing while working as the anti-graft agency’s Secretary.
This assertion was made by Shittu during a Channels TV interview on Wednesday.
The attorney declared, “I challenge anyone to claim otherwise; he (Olukoyede) was never indicted, and his records are clean. I don’t think we should rely on speculation when we are talking about the reputation of individuals; where is any White Paper, where is any indictment. “
He added that Olukoyede was never fired and was never let go while serving as the EFCC Secretary between 2018 and 2023.
President Bola Tinubu named Olukoyede the EFCC chairman on Thursday, as reported by GISTLOVER.
A few months after Abdulrasheed Bawa’s suspension by Tinubu as director of the agency, Olukoyede was named the new leader.
Olukoyede’s appointment would be initially for a four-year renewable term, subject to Senate confirmation.
Olukoyede’s appointment has drawn criticism, with some claiming that he lacks the necessary experience to lead the anti-graft agency.
Shittu, however, insisted that the EFCC chairman-designate is exceedingly qualified and said that rather than worrying about someone’s qualifications or lack thereof, the focus should be on who can perform the job.
“I am aware that Olukoyede has been exonerated of any complicity and any allegation,” he continued. “.
