Efe Omorogbe recently shared a video on his social media platform, revealing his direct involvement in the mediation process that took place on May 13, 2024, aimed at resolving disputes between Eezee T and his former signees, Mercy Chinwo and Judikay.
In his account, he identified the members of the mediation team, which included himself, Eezee T’s attorney, the legal representatives of Mercy Chinwo, Judikay’s counsel, and Apostle Anselm Madubuko.
Omorogbe elaborated on his role in the mediation, explaining the rationale behind his inclusion and the contributions he made.
“They should follow the standard practice”, Efe Omorogbe reveals
In the video, Omorogbe mentioned that he was invited to participate as a music business expert. He discussed the concept of Master’s rights and the typical ownership structure associated with them.
During the mediation, he clarified that the master rights of recordings are generally held by the record label, and he outlined the conditions under which these rights could be transferred to an artist.
Additionally, he referenced Burna Boy’s situation with Spaceship Records and his previous label to illustrate his points. Omorogbe made it clear to Mercy Chinwo and Judikay that if they wished to regain their master recordings, they would need to pay the value assigned to them by the record label.
He noted that it was simple, “I want to buy, then a value is drawn up, negotiation happens and you pay the estimation. A simple buy and sell contract.”
