Some masquerades clad in their costumes came out in the streets to show off their abilities as usual.
However, things did not proceed as planned, since the Lagos State Police Command quickly picked them up.
The police in Lagos quickly apprehended several masquerades, disrobed them, and are preparing to haul them to court.
In a Facebook video shared by Akintimehin Sunday Olubiyi, the police pledged to take additional action against anybody found parading as a masquerade without the approval of a registered traditional authority.
The police accused the arrested masquerades and their handlers of robbing people on the streets while masked as masquerades.
The police said they will charge the arrested people with robbery, public disruption, and other offenses based on public complaints.
The arrested individuals may be seen in the police net on the video.
