On Thursday, the administration of Governor Abba Yusuf expressed concern over a bribery allegation made by Justice Flora Ngozi Azinge, the head of the Kano State National and State Houses of Assembly Election Petition Tribunal.
An attempt to bribe a tribunal member with money, according to Justice Azinge, had been made.
The goal, in Azinge’s opinion, is to influence the justice system to favor the client of the attorney.
She bemoaned how senior lawyers in particular engaged in unethical practice in open court before the start of the session on Tuesday in Kano.
A statement signed by the State Commissioner of Information, Baba Halilu Dantiye reads, “The Kano State Government’s attention has been drawn to an allegation made by the chairman of the Kano National and State Houses of Assembly Election Petition Tribunal, Justice Flora Ngozi Azinge, in her words “money has been flying in the Tribunal,” so there was an attempt to bribe a tribunal member with money in order to influence the justice.
According to Dantiye, the state government took the incident very seriously because there is a persistent rumor that “strong forces who are well-known for their corrupt attitude are working tirelessly to scuttle the hard-earned mandate of the people of Kano State.“.
Dantiye claims that the State Government saw the incident as an opportunity for the current administration to demonstrate to Nigerians its dedication to fighting corruption and upholding democratic principles by ensuring that the case was thoroughly investigated and the offenders were brought to justice.
He declared, “The anti-corruption agencies are equally expected to spring into action, particularly when this type of allegation was made in open court by a respected Judge.
However, the commissioner claimed that the government delightedly viewed Justice Azinge’s action as a successful testimony.
“There is still hope for the Nigerian judicial system, according to Dantiye, and there are many judges and justices in our nation who have a strong sense of integrity.
“The state government also expressed gratitude to the good citizens of Kano who, at a time when they lacked access to federal, state, local, or financial resources, cast well over a million votes to elect the NNPP to power.
“The government, therefore, notes and appreciates the readiness of the Kano people to defend their mandate through any means possible. “
