Mrs Elizabeth Ironbar, a member of the Cross River State House of Assembly representing the Akpabuyo State Constituency, has died.
She died on Wednesday morning at the Assembly Village, Ikotenim in Calabar, after a long illness.
She was elected for the first time in 2015, and for the second time in 2019.
She is one of eight Assembly members who have declined to join Senator Ben Ayade, the state’s governor, in defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Reports coming from a close family source who didn’t want his identity publicized revealed that she died in the early hours of today, Wednesday, 27th October.
“Yes , she died this morning after a protracted illness. She is indeed a strong woman.
Mrs Itonbar is the Assembly’s fourth member to die since 2015. Stephen Ukpipken, representing Obudu state constituency, was the first, followed by John Nkoro, representing Ikom 11 state constituency, Godwin Akwaji, also from Obudu, and now Lady Ironbar.
In the last six years, death has hit the assembly members from across the three senatorial zones.
