Football sensation Mohamed Salah has said he is fully fit and ready to take on his country’s opponents in the coming World Cup in Russia. The player appears to have shaken off the shoulder injury which threatened his chances of participating at the Mundial.
The Liverpool forward says he will be “ready to play against Uruguay”, as he and his teammates go chasing “the Egyptian dream”.
Salah’s World Cup hopes looked all but over as he made his way from the field in tears during Liverpool’s Champions League final loss to Real Madrid, but he has since made impressive progress in his recovery and – despite initial claims suggesting that he would be sidelined for around three weeks – believes he will be in contention to face Uruguay on June 15.
Speaking to Egyptian president Abdel Fattah el-Sisi before jetting off to Russia, Salah said:
“I promise you I will do my best to be ready for the World Cup and to achieve the Egyptian dream.
“I feel much better now and I’ll be ready to play against Uruguay. I will never give up on our dream, I promise to do my best for our people.”
But the reigning PFA Player of the Year did, however, admit that his involvement will depend on how he feels closer to the day.
“Now I’m better,” said Salah.
“I hope to play the first game against Uruguay, but that will depend on how I feel when it [the match] approaches.”
Egypt return to the World Cup after a 28-year absence, and Salah was instrumental in qualifying them for Russia 2018, netting a stoppage-time winner in the deciding game against DR Congo.
